When did I do this? If I told you, I’d have to kill you. :) It was sometime this year… I didn’t do anything reeeally fun. I worked on a project for school, cleaned my apartment and went to dinner. So it was more of a mental health day. Maybe I should only consider this one 1/2 done?

Ecotourism

If you are passionate environmentalist, then maybe a good idea would be to take a great vacation in the wilderness, visit the natural wonders of the world like the Grand Canyon or just have a comforting picnic in a park near you. You are not alone in this, because more and more people like the idea of spending time in an environment free from cars, traffic, and tall buildings. Eco tourism is dedicated to help keep the environment clean but there are some reasons why many think it is wrong.

1. The Reason Eco tourism is Bad

The main reason Eco tourism is bad in the rural locations is that, although it truly is a better place to be in, with fresher air, healthier environment and stunning sights, it’s best to keep it that way. And if people from the city barge in, the nearby rural environment their sure to produce havoc, by lettering all over the green space, polluting the air with their cars and so on. Not to mention the harm they do to the nearby wild animals, as most people venture into the woods and feed the animals there, especially bears. This is both dangerous for both the animal and human, as a wild critter is always unpredictable.
Anyone that has even been to a recognized part has no doubt see a few pieces of trash in different areas of the location. It makes no difference how smart the park rangers are, the forest is a very large place and can sometimes be too big to find every piece of trash. Trash in the forest is going to make the environment look degraded but it is also very harmful to any living thing that takes up residence in the environment. You should know that any type of plastic is very hard to destroy and it is not going to break down.

This all does have to do with how smart the tourists are when it comes to making the choice to now litter.

2. Why Eco tourism is Wrong in the first place

The most known reason why ecotourism is wrong is due to the structures that are made for different ecotourism tours. Besides the fact that their disturbing the whole natural space, they’re ruining it too. Take the tourist paths in example, that need to be made, for visitor movement. In some of the parks, there are lookout towers that are built in among the tress. These items are going to have a meaning but they are going to unintentionally damage the precious environment. And so on, so on.

Protect the environment

There are a variety of different ways in which ecotourism can be bad for the environment, and if you want more information there are a variety of different options. First if you have environmental groups in your location that do not want ecotourism you need to talk to them and see if you can give them any type of information that will help them feel more confident in it. You can also search the Internet for more information, just be aware that opinions differ on this subject. You are sure to find interesting information with the proper research.

If you are renovating your home or planning a backyard cleanup you will need to hire a skip, sometimes called a skip bin or dumpster, which is a large refuse bin, commonly seen on construction sites. Skips come in many different shapes and sizes; the smallest is generally 2 cubic metres and the largest can be up to 30 cubic metres. The most commonly used skips for home renovations are 3 cubic metre, 4 cubic metre, 5 cubic metre and 6 cubic metre skips.

The various skip rental companies have different ways of charging for their skips. Some charge a flat fee for a service. Often you are only allowed to have the skip for a week or less. This flat fee includes waste disposal or dumping charges as they are commonly known. Other companies may offer a cheaper base rate, but charge you additional dumping charges after collection of the skip. Be careful to read the fine print on these costs to avoid any nasty surprises. Prices also vary by city and even by location within a city. When you are shopping around for a skip it is important that you know the approximate weight and volume of the refuse as this will help you to determine which the best quote is for you.

There is a very large number of competing skip companies in most areas and it can really take a long time phoning around to find the best price for the skip of your needs. One solution to this problem is to use an online skip booking service that can search a range of skip and waste collection companies for you and get you a competitive quote in seconds. This way you can also be sure that your skip will be provided by a reputable company. In this way you pay online with your credit card in a secure way, and receive a confirmation by email. The whole process takes about 2 minutes.

A leading provider of online skip hire services.

Apple Mac OS X Leopard

Apple (AAPL) announced that it had sold or delivered more than 2 million copies of OS X 10.5 in its first weekend, as compared to OS X Tiger which took nearly six weeks for the same. There is a lot of speculation that the launch of Leopard would be the most successful of all Apple OS releases.

Mac users are already rushing to Apple Inc.’s support forums to report degrading in their wireless connections. As of today, the company has not posted any support document addressing this problem or provided a fix.

There is no comparable data on records, but Microsoft is said to be licensed 20 million copies in its first month, 88 million copies of Vista in nine months. There is no doubting that the user base for Apple Computers is growing, but would it surpass the sales of Microsoft’s Vista? I doubt so.

I woke up in a dream. I found myself on board an extraterrestrial ship. There were about five extraterrestrials manning the ships, each with a different post. They all looked human. I was facing the front of the ship, near the right side, next to the front view screen, a window, and a television monitor.

We were in the near future, watching recent solar activity on the surface of the sun. For the past year, the sun had been undergoing violent solar flare activity that had a profound effect on earth as well as other planets in the solar system.

We then moved over to the earth. To the right of the earth, on the main view screen, there was a comet heading toward the earth. It was the same comet I seen in an earlier vision. The comet was closer to the earth compared to the first vision. The extraterrestrials were on full alert. We all watched with intensity as the comet impacted earth.

The impact was worse than I ever imagined. I though, “This is worse than the movie ‘Deep Impact’.” It looked like the comet hit Southern Africa, three-fourths on land, one-fourth in the sea. A huge tsunami headed toward South America and Antarctica. The tsunami was big, several miles high. Dirt from the land and the ocean floor was thrown into earth’s atmosphere, causing the sun to turn black and the moon to turn blood red.

Back on board the ship, the television monitor turned on. Jesus Christ appeared, on the monitor; He looked like a handsome 28 year old man wearing a futuristic commander’s uniform. All of the extraterrestrials were listening to his commands with complete attention for he was in control of what was happening. There were countless extraterrestrial ship around earth and the other planets in the solar system. They too were receiving commands from Jesus.

From the monitor, Jesus was explaining what I was seeing on the view screen. What I next saw on the view screen was what had been occurring on earth just before the impact. In addition to the solar activity, which was a sign of the coming impact, the earth had suffered from a series of major natural disasters. Earthquakes were clearly one form of those disasters. Just before the impact, there were possible futures that could have manifested, depending on the choices of the human population.

Then the images on the view screen jumped back to the point we had left off (the sun turning black and the moon turning red from the impact.) Jesus continued to explain what I was seeing on the screen. The human population experienced a few days of darkness. Then, through Jesus, God intervened. I could see the entire planet on the screen. The hand of God (literally) grabbed the planet. I then saw people on the earth loosing consciousness. Jesus explained that God was causing humanity to loose consciousness during the worst of the fallout. God was protecting 50% to 75% of the population of the planet. It was as if people were entering a cryogenic freeze. People remained unconscious for as little as three months to as long as three years. God kept them alive no matter what the conditions were on earth.

On the earth, the planet was reaching freezing temperatures. The impact would have been a planet killer if God had not intervened. After the dust settled and the temperature of the planet reached a livable level, the humans, as well as selected plant and animal life, were revived. Humanity had no knowledge of their lost time. From that point on, humanity experienced the daytime darkness dimmed by one-third and the nighttime darkness deepened by the same amount.

After the revival, there were some more possible futures that humans could go through, but there was only about three years left before the next event.

The sun was still going through violent solar flare activity. As I looked at the earth through the view screen, something was happening to the earth. Light was beginning to bend around the planet. As the anomaly got stronger, the planet disappeared as if it was clocked. All I could see was a mild blur where the earth was supposed to be. Jesus said from the monitor, “The demons and evils in the universe can no longer see or find the earth”.

Over the blur, energy began to swirl around like water swirling down the drain. At the center, there was a black hole, a doorway. The earth was beginning to move through that black hole. The extraterrestrials on the ship moved into the next phase of their mission. They engaged the ship and moved from our current dimension and into the dimension where the earth was supposed to appear.

On the other side, the same blur appeared, followed by the swirling and the black hole. The extraterrestrials were on high alert again. They said amongst themselves that they had to make sure that earth’s atmosphere was intact. It was a tense moment as the hole began to open. The earth began to appear and there was a great sense of relief as we could all see the atmosphere of the planet was intact, but it was better than that. The atmosphere was crystal clear and the earth was cleaner than ever before. There was on residue of past human activity. Nuclear weapons, waste, pollution was all gone. The earth was alive and totally rejuvenated. It was like the Garden of Eden.

I realized then that there were countless humans on neighboring ships and in places that may have been more comfortable for them. They had been taken up in the rapture and were waiting to repopulate the planet.

I woke-up then, thought about what I had just seen, then went back to sleep. Throughout the rest of the evening, I heard one of the extraterrestrials talk to me about what I had seen. We went over it and over it all night. He wanted me to remember and know what I had seen.

Montrasio International

Here is an excerpt from a recent article talking about the new Chinese travel and investment trend:

On February 14, after China Eastern Airlines’ flight from New York landed at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport, people swarmed off the plane, all carrying shopping bags. Miss Yang, who took advantage of Spring Festival to travel to the United States, said, “I bought a digital camera, an iPod, designer bags, clothes and shoes. The dollar fell and buying things has become so cost-effective.”

Miss Yang is only one of the many infected by the “Buy-in-America” craze now on the rise. With the weak dollar and the rise of the RMB, prices in the United States are much lower than in China. Not only are tourists physically shopping, but they are also shopping online with US dollars.

Kimberly Spell, a spokesperson for the New York City Tourism Bureau said that in the last two years, the number of Chinese tourists has risen. New York City received 145,000 Chinese tourists last year; and by the end of this year, the number of Chinese tourists will reach 159,000 – a record high. The New York City Tourism Bureau estimated that once China’s tourist visa to the United States opens up, this figure will see a new high.

Spell said that foreign tourists contribute significantly to New York City’s economy. Last year, New York City’s total income from tourism reached 24.7 billion – half of which came from foreign tourists. Chinese tourists’ contribution to the city’s tourism industry has become increasingly apparent.

According to a survey by the New York Tourism Bureau, Chinese tourists stayed in New York an average of 5.9 nights, with 79% of people living in hotels; 86 percent going out to eat; 84 percent going shopping; and 58 percent visiting tourist spots. In terms of shopping, Chinese tourists mainly buy European-brand cosmetics and clothes. And, it is worth mentioning that among the current Chinese tourists in New York; more than 80 percent are business travelers. Many of them purchase homes in New York. According to statistics, Chinese people spend an average of 340,000 US dollars on real estate in New York: 5,000 US dollars more than the British.

netscape

I was not actually sad, but did feel a twinge of nostalgia on learning that the venerable web browser, Netscape, which helped me and many others in our initial navigation of the web, was officially put down yesterday.

The Wired blog summed it up, the what and the why, in Netscape: The Browser That Started it All Dies a Quiet Death.

When Netscape arrived back in 1994, the screeching wail of the dial-up modem was not yet a household sound. But the browser changed that and ignited the growth of the internet by making it easy for anyone to use.

Then came Microsoft’s party-crashing Internet Explorer browser, which, rather infamously, was bundled with Windows. That bundling marked the beginning of the end for Netscape.

The New New Thing book cover

In an interesting although intrinsically trivial coincidence, one of a number of books we donated yesterday to our local library was The New New Thing, by Michael Lewis. It’s a fascinating book about an extraordinary man, Jim Clark, entrepreneur, founder of Silicon Graphics, owner of huge yachts and co-founder of Netscape. The Australian Financial Review Magazine, February 2008 article on superyachts got it wrong in describing him parenthetically as “who invented Netscape”, presumably using “Netscape” in the popular sense of “the Netscape Navigator browser”, rather than in the sense of Netscape the corporation.

A Wikipedia article on the other co-founder of Netscape (the corporation) Marc Andriessen provides some background about who “invented” and who founded what, when.
